For all good things, to ensure our attainment and success, we begin with a first step. The first step is usually the gestalt ... the realization of
what is to be or, in some cases,
what needs to be. Unless clearly formulated, we are unable to fully capture all aspects of
"The Vision" and, consequently, find resources being applied or consumed otherwise than intended. All such deviations, from the
central purpose, either create bumps on the road, reduce the full splendour of the result or, in the extreme, can create a canyon preventing our ability to achieve the
ultimate goal which the vision made us crave for.
This blog will become the vehicle by which the reader will be presented with
- concepts,
- specific ideas,
- resources,
- approaches, and
- opinions
regarding the
processes used to facilitate achievement of goals. More specifically, I will attempt to focus on the various aspects which are considered reference points for determining
the maturity of such processes. Maturity of process refers, in part, to how well the processes were performed, but more importantly on the comprehensiveness of scope, and sophistication in approach, in creating those processes, managing circumstances where there is lack of follow-through and managing the evolution of those processes so as to minimize future errors. The expression
"continuous improvement" is just a label characterizing the need for constancy of change. Gauging how far change has taken the organization, in reference to some ultimate benchmark, is the purpose of performing
process audits, thereby allowing a determination of process maturity, usually an
indicator of effectiveness and competitiveness.
The above is simply the kernel of the concept for the site, hence the "Harbinger" designation in this post's title. It is a very distant and blurred sense of the vision intended for this site.
For a more crystallized view of the vision, my next post will
- mark the territory boundaries,
- map the territory content,
- give texture to that content, and
- indicate the initial direction that will be taken, as a pathfinder, on a journey of discovery through this territory.
For every wall, there are many
inter-dependent layers of bricks, which must be constructed in sequence.
For every tall building, there is a
strong foundation.
You are invited to consider the knowledge, that I will be posting here, so that you may find it useful in avoiding the many traps and pitfalls inherent in weak processes, and facilitate the achievement of your individual goals.
Rather than being branded with the label of
"cowboy", a "shoot from the hip", "spur of the moment" kind of guy, the knowledge you will find here should help you hone your skills, create your own brand and ultimately become an expert professional: a respected
"gunslinger". As such, you will stand out in the crowd! As for your organization, with maturity of processes comes market expansion and dominance, because
you are
better at it than the other guy.
